Houses
9th house
Modern astrologers read the ninth house as higher education, travel, philosophy and belief.
01
Core meaning
In tradition the ninth house signifies long journeys, religion, dreams, foreign countries, books and learning. Modern astrologers read the ninth house as higher education, travel, philosophy and belief.
02
Constructive expression
Ninth-house themes favor study, travel and widening one's perspective.
03
Challenging expression
Their challenge is dogmatism or restlessness.
04
Technique
The twelve houses divide the sky around the birthplace; tradition gives every area of life to one of them. A planet placed in a house brings its own themes into that area of life.
05
Houses
With Jupiter in the ninth house, faith and learning expand; Lilly links Jupiter here with a devout or modest disposition. It favors study, travel, philosophy and widening one's horizons.
06
Natal chart use
Personal houses come from the exact birth time and place, and Solunari calculates them with Whole Sign or Equal houses. Without a birth time, the Ascendant, Midheaven and personal houses cannot be calculated; Solunari shows the civil-day range instead of inventing them.
07
Generalized solar houses
A solar house counts signs from the Sun sign: the Sun sign is the first house, the next sign the second, and so on.
08
Limitations
Solar-house readings are generalized for everyone sharing a Sun sign; they are not a substitute for a personal chart calculated from a birth time.
